Does that mean the 964's have more engine problems? I've looked at some early 90's 911's with 80k to 95k miles. It's pretty clear that folks are comfortable buying the 3.2's with higher mileage. What considerations should I be thinking of for the 964 engine repairs, maintenance, longevity, etc.? The folks on this board are awesome. Someday, I'll be a Porsche owner ... in good time ... with the right car, Lord willing.

LUCKe: If you haven't yet purchased a copy of my book (Amazon.com stocks it), I respectfully urge you to do so. There is a lot to know about 964s, and the models are, I hope!, well covered over about ten pages in the 8th edition...

I love how people call the 3.2 bullet proof but then start a 15 page thread arguing about what oil to use and if one uses the wrong oil how it will destroy the engine.........real bullet proof.

Don't get me wrong, I really like my 3.2.

The 'bulletproof' term was coined by Bruce Anderson for the SC motor, not the 3.2

The Carrera motors have a set of common problems. But then, so does just about every generation of 911 motors.

LUCKe27,

I also encourage you to buy Peter Zimmerman's book. I did and it helped me tremendously. Not to mention, it's a wealth of information you can use after your 911 purchase.

For whatever it's worth I have had my 911 about 12 years and it's been the most reliable car I have ever owned.

Interesting fact, because I think that tag line has been used on every 3.2 ad I've seen. I'm not having very much luck looking for these cars thus far. I think I'll order the book and take a week off (famous last words).
