Ed! DIY friendly is a relative term! Look for my post on the subject later tonight. Teaser: there is blood involved.

Gents, I hope I'm wrong about the transmission issue, but this is a G50 car where the coupling is almost fool-proof in its connection. I fear that this is not the root cause. Again, I'm crossing fingers I'm wrong.

I've added both below for reference. The first is the 915 and the second is the G50

I'm on my phone at ORD, way too slow to look at pics. That's what I thought. What are the chances? It would have to be, everyone knows G50's are perfect and don't break.

Hope you're not laid over too long. Safe travels and thank you to both for the brainpower.

What is that front bushing cup supposed to do?

It is a nylon cup that provides a cushion between the shift lever and rod.

It gets old and brittle then breaks into chunks over time. Since reverse is often the most abused (by application of force) when selecting the gear, the cup breaks and yields shifting issues.

It is not too hard to get down to the cup and inspect.

I'll be at LGA, DCA, DTW, DEN and back to LGA this week. One stop at ORD trumps all of that though.
