Post 911 v. 912

hey. I'm kind of a neophyte to porsche. I was just wondering what the differences between the 911 and 912 were. I assume the 912 was an inferior car based on the prices I've seen on them, but I would like a little info if possible.

Thanks

Tom

912 is a four-cylinder car. 911 is a six.

The body styling was essentially the same between the two models. The 912 was an affordable alternative for a lot of people who weren't as concerned with performance.

But the 912 has its own following, now. There's a good argument that -- in terms of handling, low weight, and all-around nimbleness -- the 912 is more of a successor to the 356 than the 911 was.

Originally known as the 'Poor mans Porsche' but closely followed to 911.
Except It had a 4 cylinder engine.

Built between 1965 and 1969.
Very popular at over 30000 sales
lower spec interior
available in 4 or 5 speed manual gearbox

Also in 1975 but 2000 produced

To learn about the 912, try www.912registry.org. It is a wonderful place to browse and learn. Dave Hillman's 912 site is also very good.

Read up and make up your own mind. There are lots of opinions. Personally, I liked the 912's but the early 911's had a special appeal to me also.

Ask lots of questions once you start reading up. The Porsches are a fantastic car regardsless of the model selected.
