Living in SB and owning a house in SB are two different things, dont assume anything I rent a room in a 4 bedroom house with 3 other students. I pay 650 dollars for rent. If I owned a 2 million dollar house here I wouldnt even be thinking about a 993 I would go get myself a 997S

Let's do some simple math. I remember this car was purchased for around $18,000 and $6,000 has been added to that in repairs. so that is $24,000 right? You are getting offers at $17,000 after 12 months of ownership. $7,000 into 12 months is $585 per month. My electric bill is $600 per month. The gasoline for my job is $600 per month. Our cell phones are $300 per month. The house payment is $2,100 per month. Food is always over $1,200 per month. My BMX habbit is sometimes $500 for a "Nationals" weekend. We didn't cover the trash, water, sewer, dish, house phone, DSL and AOL, the maid, gardener, full coverage insurance on four cars, clothing, or lunch money. Not to mention the wife paid off my $20,000 911 in 10 months. In short I'd say you got off perty easy at @$600 per month for a 911. What is that...20 bucks a day. Round it off to an hours pay and you get to own that much automotive history. I don't know what to say? I'm thinking a Honda could cost that much..........

Um I still owe 16500 on the car. Also you have a family Doug, its a little bit different. I pay 50 dollars for tv, water, trash, electricity, gas, and my cell phone is 40 dollars per month. My rent is 650 not 2100. Food for my poor grad student *** is 250 a month. You also own several cars, and again have an entire family. We are living on two totally different scales. Does that also mean you would sell your 2000 dollar plasma TV for 20 bucks? considering you spend more than triple that every month? The logical reasoning isn't quite on there. Just because one spends a lot of money, that doesn't mean they should give away personal belongings

And why do people keep spreading this 17K number around? I never even said 17K, I said 18K. I am pretty sure my car is worth the 20500 that I am asking for it. Even Zimmerman agreed that it seemed like a fair price

i think I missed an entire line in my opening of the above rant. What I was trying to say was COST OF OWNERSHIP What I was trying to say was that your cost of ownership is, or was $600 per month. If you still owe $16,500 and you get $18,000 after all is said and done your cost of ownership is still within reason. If you only put 3,000 miles on in that year that cost has got to sting some, but you still can't expect the next owner to cover your losses. Ask any car owner or home owner what his cost of ownership is and he will come back with a painful answer. It costs alot to own luxury items. A Porsche is a luxury item.
My list of items in my above post was my "cost of being a dad", a cost I am very happy to pay. When I should have been in school I was having heart atacks. On my 22nd birthday I got my first pacemaker. As time went on I qualified for SSI, AFDC, Medi-Cal, and I'm sure lots of other programs. I could have given in, stayed at home, lived off my mother, and in short been a bum. I looked around me at the dopes that had good jobs, families, homes, cars, and realized that if they could do it, I could do it. I got working and got a wife and kids and all the trappings that go with it. I got a good tax guy, found a house, and have a household income about $150,000. Now back to the list above.....All the things on that list like house, cars, phones, six kids, food, trash ans so on.... My cost of ownership to be a dad is about $150,000 a year. (ok my cost is $50,000 and my wife's is $100,000 (day care)) That is a small price to pay to still be alive and partaking in the American Dream. If I am dead tomarrow and my cost of ownership killed me I am O.K. with it. I am sure your cost of ownership won't kill you. It was high, I'll give you that, but well within the norm.

As a friend and someone that has really gotten to like you over this last year my advice is to keep the car. I know a 993 would be nice. I know you would look great in it. I know you want to get your hands dirty and work on it. You are young and you are in school....You ride a bike to class and as far as I can tell your 911 is in Glandale and you are in Santa Barbara. I'm sure that you don't need me standing over you like some imposing father figure telling you waht to do, but come on, you have one of the nicest 911's ever produced and you want to roll the dice on another one. The one you have is, at your own admission, in great shape. Enjoy it. Remember the old song by I don't remember who...."If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" My ultimate Porsche would be a G.P. white, DP935 or at least a RUF935. Now, I have a stock Carrera, that may not be my dream car today, It is what I have and I love it. (My wife isn't the skinny little hottie that made my mother scream anymore, but I still love her) (My mother actually offered to send me back to, and pay a full ride to, BYU-Idaho if I didn't marry this one) I guess what I am trying to say is that sometimes you should keep what you've got. Remember when Murphy sold his 911 to Old Man Neri, I went off on him so bad I can still hear the echo. What happend next, he got a hog, a fricken' hog. Had a 911 and got an H.D. I don't get it.
Any way, best of luck.

I agree. The classic lines of the 3.2 are way cooler than the 993 anyways.

(then again, maybe I think that 'cause I'm old --- cause, dude, I don't know what <3 is either!)

You're not old, youre classic Plus you can't really consider yourself old because the computer tech boom happened so fast that even if you were, say, 30 right now, you still would have no clue what it was.

may I ask why "<3" = "thanks"? Any logical translation or it's just simply a slang?
