I've just moved to Montclair, NJ. Can anyone recommend a mechanic? My car's an '88 911.

They have a list of local independents.
I use Bodymotion. They are close to me and have a good reputation and support the local clubs.

I definitely agree with Bob S. Gene at Autohaus. Great shop, fair prices. Going to him for over ten years for everything from regular work to track upgrades on my 87 911. He'll even give you a ride to the train station! (Mid Town Direct) There is a shop in Montclair. Exclusive motorcars, I think is the name. Don't know anything about them, though.

I use Cheech at Rennwerke in Elmsford as well (just over the Tappan-zee) & am very happy w/ him - might be a little far for you (tho not as far as Andrew above needs to travel!)

Do a "search" here also -this has been discussed before - lots of competent guys around, I think...

Gene Kirshner of Autohaus is the place to be. You need to be able to trust them and so I go to Gene ONLY. He knows everything there is to know about porsches plus he's a really good guy...funny too and most of all friendly.

I would try him before anyone else.

Best of luck,
James

Does Gene do the PPIs, or do I have to request him?

Its a small shop. Gene and two guys turning wrenches for him. I'm sure he'll look at the car and give you his opinions, even if his other mechanics do some of the actual wrenching.
