Just wondering, has anyone bought/used
one of those paintless dent repair kits that are, I think, glorified suction cups?

Pete -
If you're talking for a 911, I think you'll be disappointed. The body metal thickness seems much thicker than modern cars, making it far less likely you're going to pop the dent out that way.
I've seen them in-use before, and "it depends" is basically the answer I give when someone asks if they work. Good luck!

The guy that took out the one ding in my 911 told me he had never worked on a car with such thick steel and told me not to dent it again 'cause $100 wasn't gonna fix the next one.

Fred: No, I've got a really irritating, quarter-sized dent in the tailgate of my otherwise very nice F 150. It's the only thing that I see when I walk up to it, drive's me nuts!

If it's not CREASED, you may find it's possible to pop the Ford dent Pete. A digi-pic emailed to your local dent doctor for an "estimate" may yield a yay / nay on the effectiveness. If they give you a yay, you can decide to pay the $75 the local guy will do (usually find the guy that does the local dealerships' cars & bring it down while they're there kind of thing) or buying the kit if you're so inclined.

Paintless dent repair is the way to go. Had a couple of door dings on the Cayenne and you can't tell they were ever there.
There has to be a bunch of pdr guys running around SoCal.
good luck

Update! A place called "The Dent Dude," here in Bakersfield, took care of my tailgate glitch, and fixed the only door ding, from when the truck was only 3 weeks old, that I had. $135 complete, the work is beautiful, enough so that the truck will receive it's next coat of Meguiars very soon...
