Mighty McLaren, found guilty for being in possession of secret Ferrari F1 documents, is going to have to write a very big check. And they're not going to win the constructors championship, not with zero points. But their drivers will keep their points, after offering information following a grant of immunity. Wow. No wonder that team went from building a decent car that usually broke at some point during a race weekend, to a mind-blowing, best car in the field, one that never breaks, race car.
Peter, that is probably T.P. money for McLaren to pay
I believe there was mention that Alonso and De la rosa knew about some of the Ferrari specs as well before the season started, what a waste of a season honestly
Hopefully the FIA can do something with these cars and we can have more appreciation for the drivers instead of the cars.
"...what a waste of a season..." is right. You always know that these teams are going to stretch the rules at any time they think that it's worth the risk, but this is way beyond that. If McLaren is so guilty to have been required to pay such an enormous penalty, I wonder why the FIA gave Alonso and Hamilton immunity. It doesn't make sense, unless info from the drivers was crucial to the FIA's case. So, McLaren is found guilty, which means that something in those documents might have led to McLarens incredible reliability, not to mention pace, this year. Which is why its two drivers are 1 & 2 in the championship, the drivers that are in the maybe illegal cars, accumulating points at the expense of mainly Ferrari and BMW, and they're allowed to keep those points. Once again, there is the right way, the wrong way, and the F1 way!
ice: I haven't heard about a possible suspension for '08...
"So, McLaren is found guilty, which means that something in those documents might have led to McLarens incredible reliability, not to mention pace, this year."
I think their reliability is coincident w/ the "frozen" eng spec intro'd this season.
The pace comes from catching up w/ Ferrari's long-standing Bridgestone tire setup expertise, leaked by Stepney. other than that, & $100M, everything is normal.
