Getting bigger SC
Hello All
**Already posted at pelican-p**
Im going to perform complete restoration of my 78 SC to showroom specs.
Main part of course is engine which I would like to get to 300+ HP with a lot of torgue and mid ranged HP, fuel octane is 98, rare use up to 3000 per year, most for club race or events, emission is not a problem.
As we dont have any specialists here in MOW who can give professional advise has to ask help from community. Actually here only 3 SC and 10-15 911 -89.
Im considering the following scenarios for which I need your vote, pro and contra:
Engine bore
1. Mahle 3,2 98mm P/C (3,2l)
2. 3,3l crankshaft + JE 98mm P/C 10,5:1 CR (3,4l)
3. 3.0 to 3.4 101MM Big Bore Conversion
4. 3.0 to 3.8 Big Bore Stroke Conversion
5. Nickies 102mm P/C (3,5l)
Upgrades :
A. PMO
B. Twin plug (where toget complete set ?)
C. Electromotive or similar (?)
D. Open headers +muffler (which?)
E. RS/RSR style short geared transmission
F.Light Weight Flywheel
J. Camshafts 964 ?
??
????
??????
What else I need to think about? port and polish? carbon hood , doors and fenders? Change engine to 964 3,6?
Probably too many question , but Im in vaccuum here
Will post a picture of my "start" later on
Thank you all
A
PS If you indicate a parts source It would be great

I love the high octane in my 3.2 . I mix 100 octane down to 95 and it really makes my stock motor purr. Steve Weiner is the guy to hook up with. He suplies many of the private racers with everything you are looking for. Keep us up to date on your progress.

Wehn I had my 80 911SC I thought about many of those conversions. you can also do 100MM pistons, which I have seen, put on a 2.7 case. That car RIPS! but it runs pretty hot. plus there were issues with the ignition and I know the owner invested a lot of time and money getting it to run right. I vote for the 98mm P/Cs as a good compromise between driveability and reliability for the 3.0 case. That is what the Ruf SC-R essentially did. I don't think 98s will quite get you to 300hp though, maybe 250.
3.8, that would really generate heat, need an external oil cooler for that.
I would increase compression and twin plug while I was at it, probalby look for a 3.2 DME as well. I think Clewett engineering has a twin plug conversion that will go on an SC.
Ultimately I sold the SC and bought a 993...financially it made more sense to me, while not as much "adventure" as hot rodding an SC, I was able to sell my SC for $8700 and by a 993 for $31K. Rebuilding the SC with 98mmP/Cs etc... would cost me around $10K, problem is that the SC is such a bulletproof motor, mine wasn't going to need a rebuild for a looooong time, and I couldn't see tearing apart a perfectly good motor.
