Head Gasket-To be or not to be
Just wanting to collect some opinions on this. There appears to be differing opinions among rebuilders.
When rebuilding a 3.2l, do you recommend the use of base and head gaskets?
Some think that base gaskets can be sacrificed in lieu of a good sealant. (And I believe there are some good aviation quality sealants for aircooled aircraft engines) Some think "no" and say use base gaskets. I am referring to the case when no height adjustments are necessary due to good machining. Opinions either way are welcomed.
Some think head gaskets aren't required if good machine work was performed on heads and cylinders and c/r is lower than 11/1. Others say always us 'em. I am referring to the case where no machining has been done (groove) specifically for that type of head gasket. Again, opinion with or without this machining is welcomed.
Anyone with good experience in this area care to offer an opinion?
Thanks!
