I'm guessing someone had these off at one point and didn't grease them back up.
Prying won't work as these are a tight fit and you are binding them when prying.
I go back to the tapping the vice grip all around over and over .........
Maybe be even hitting the around the cap with a hard malett over and over ...........
If you drill the cap out you still need to hold on to the plate to smack it out.

One side is finally out. I gave up and drilled a small hole through the cap and used a punch to tap it out. I did the same on the other side, but it's still stuck in there. So I sprayed some WD40 in there and let it sit over night. Hopefully I'll be able to knock it out today.

Default Finally

Finally got the passenger side torsion bar free from the spring plate.

I had to pry off the cover and bang it out with a hammer. No amount of wiggling or pulling would have ever gotten it off. It was kind of rusted in there.

use Kroil, pb Blaster or similar - not WD-40

Thanks. Next I'm replacing the bushings with Neatrix bushings.

Hi Matt,

When you get this done you'll have to post how it rides.

When I finally get mine back together I'll be doing a ride height adjustment on it. Mine will be a bit easier than your because I've had my T bars out recently and I greased them up real good before I put them back in.

Good luck with the mods,

Frank

I can't wait to find out myself. This has been some undertaking.

When it's finished it'll have the following:

22mm front/ 29mm rear torsion bars
Bilstein Sport front/rear shocks that have been custom valved by Smart Racing Products to their F10 valving for Street/Track setting
Neatrix Spring Plate Bushings
22mm front / 21mm rear sway bars
I already have 7" front and 9" rear fuchs with 205/245 Hankook RS2 tires.

Also, while I was in there...replaced the front rotors with new Zimmermans and rebuilt the front calipers (they had torn dust seals).

I hoping from here on in, it's just small projects. Until it's time for an engine rebuild However, I don't have the funds for tools/parts or the space and time to do that right now. Hopefully in a few years.

I did the same 22 / 29 combo & love it.

I am getting a rattle sound coming from the suspension, so I need to dive under. MIGHT be the heim'd droplinks for the rear bar, will have to see what's up under there... AFTER I finish installing the shelving in the garage & AFTER I relocate the stuff on the steel racks to said storage, and AFTER I get the SHO in to replace the steering rack, and AFTER Mikey's football practice... Ok, maybe next week.

You'll like the 22/29 combo, that's what I have on mine. Why not splurge a bit and get some Elephant bushings? I think you'll find them to your liking, and are a better design than the Neatrix. They install easier too.

Well since a bunch of you have the 22/29 combo, maybe you can help me out with this.

What angle did you set your spring plate and what kind of ride height did you achieve.

I'm looking foe euro ride height. So I'm thinking around 22 deg.

I would love to get them, but I can't spend $ 300 of a set of bushings right now. Maybe next year. For now the Neatrix will have to do.

Actually, the Elephants are more BEARINGS than BUSHINGS. But I hear you on the cost. The results are great, but pricey.
