Default Advise needed engine rebuild SC 78

Dear Sirs

I have to completely rebuild my SC78 engine with 300k on it.
Idea is to increase displacment to 3,2 or higher,
What problems I can meet?

Can anyone advise if there are such kit available to suit SC?

Thank you
Alexander

haha. There are entire books written on this topic. I'd start there. Much more organized than trying to collate the experiences, comments, and opinions from what could be hundreds of forum posts to this thread (if anyone bothers to respond ).

Here's a decent one:

Uh..hey how do you know that you need to rebuild your engine? Has the engine or top-end been done before? Even if it hasn't, what symptoms are you having, or is this a pro-active move?

BTW you should post your question in the engine rebuilding forum at Pelican -- geniuses there..

Alexander: The 3.2 liter piston/cylinder set that you need is made by Mahle, and the pistons are referred to as Max Moritz pistons. They are wonderful, and are designed to retain the CIS injection and stock cams. For your search for a set you might start with Andial in Orange County, CA, I really don't know if they're still available. Where are you at in the world? Are smog controls an issue for you?

привет!

anything is possible as long as you have the money

budget $12-15K USD for a standard rebuild and $20k + if you want new pistons and cylinders.

you could easily spend $30k if you were to increase displacement, add webers, cams, exhaust etc etc

i've read good things about the andial/mahle conversion that peter mentioned although it would expensive. i think another option is to use the 3.2 crank in the 3.0 block

having just done an engine rebuild myself i know the questions you face. instead of rebulding my 2.7 i sourced a 3.0 and had that rebuilt. i also exhanged my engine and saved a few thousand $

good luck and keep us posted

regards,

JV

Thank you all,
Do you know if i need to switch to twin plug setup with those Mahle P/C or it is just nice to have?

I got an option to get used 3,2 crank + 3,4l JE P/C what do you think?
+PMO on top of this setup

Thank you
Alexander
