Default Worn points and rotor

Ok so the enigne has a tendency to turn over on the fourth turn and run a bit rough during warm up, but under heavy accel, is fine. took dist cap off and the rotor was black along with all the points and they are worn. If I replace the cap and rotor, would this cure the problem a little.

Replacing the cap and rotor will never hurt. Just make sure you put a drop of oil on the felt wick so you lube up the mechanical advance, etc. This is often an overlooked step, and should be done every oil change. BTW you do not have "points" like you mention in the thread title, all 911s since the '78 SC have had breakerless ignition.

However, ignition problems are usually even more prevalent under load, so I doubt replacing the cap and rotor will cure the rough running on startup. That will require more investigation. A good first step is to check for vacuum leaks. If there are none, remove your airflow meter, clean it out really well w/ throttle body cleaner, making sure you pay special attention to the bypass that the CO adjuster screw regulates. Carbon likes to build up in there. Also clean the throttle body while you're at it. Then reinstall it and have someone who knows what they're doing who has a good CO meter set the mixture and the idle. If this doesn't work, then your problem could be elsewhere, and will require further investigation, possibly by a professional, but the steps I mentioned are a good start.

yeah checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned AFM and all hoses etc with throttle body cleaner. Hmmn I mean its not bad but its not perfect...I starts with an idles of 800rpm and shoots to 1500rpm and slowly warms from there, maybe thats normal.

Just read it....its great a fellow rennlister got it!! I keep reading that 944 and 911 post and I really miss my 944. I think I may need a 951 to go with this 911 soon enough...That car still makes appearances in my dreams...

I saw a '92 968 cab in guards red in san diego at $17,000 or add a 914 for a round package deal for $30,000. at that you'd have a full set.
