Post 82 SC cam timing

I'm going to be dropping my engine and transaxle in my 82 911 SC soon to rebuild the tranny. While it's out, I'm considering retarding the cams 6 degrees to match the Euro Carrera 3.0 and the 78 & 79 US spec SC's. I've retarded the cams on several other cars I've owned and it's helped move the power band up a little higher in the rev range.

My question is, has anyone else done this mod, and is it effective with the small intake ports, runners and airbox ports of the US spec 1980 through 83 SC?

Additionally, while I've got it all out, I've heard that the 83 SC cab motor and tranny mounts are a little stiffer than my stock mounts. Is this true and is it a good mod for a street car?

Thanks for your responses.

Thanks Bill,

Anyone have any thoughts on the cam indexing?
