My opinion, which is worth what you pay for it, is that "early" cars are model year 1973 and older. Go on Amazon.com and buy a copy of the "Porsche 911 Red Book" by Patrick C. Paternie. It contains all the option codes, along with other useful information. Its a very good reference to own.
