3.0 conversion nearly done!
Been "in process" for over 3 weeks but I started it for the first time tonight without the muffler, sounds just plain wicked through open headers
Anyway, my tach isn't working I'm assuming I need MSD's tach adapter p/n 8920 to work with the 6al box?

Well I didn't work on the tach tonight but instead I built up a 2.5 in exhaust with a 2 in 2 out Flowmaster muffler, replaced the header collectors with larger 2.5 inch hand formed ones and made the pipes using pieces of Hooker J-bends. The sound is loud as expected but I love it. Weds. or Thurs. will be the first test drive and I'm totally pysched about it.

I assume you are using the CD box from a 3.0 sc motor? I didn't need the adapter for tach operation in mine,as a matter of fact I bought the adapter and never used it.....it's still in the garage. If you do need it let me know, it's brand new and I'll even donate it to a good cause ......getting another P car on the road!
such a deal.

Thanks anyway Howard, I got it working and it did need the adapter. I'm using the MSD 6al box rather than the 3.0 CD box. I took the car out for a test drive tonight, all I can say is wow! Even with the timing set by feel and the carbs not fully tuned this thing just screamed. I've been borrowing a friends 5.0 Mustang to drive while I'm working on my car (he's borrowing my truck) and I'm telling you the P-car is definately faster, of course it should be with roughly the same HP and 1000lbs less weight to get moving. I've got to work out a few bugs like the oil pressure gauge not working correctly and redo the distributer for use with a MSD timing computer but other than that I'm ready to play!

Let's see a picture of that exhaust, if you can. I'm always interested in different exhaust set-ups for 911s. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

I'll get pics up soon, right now I'm replacing the exhaust tips with Monza resonators to calm the sound down a little and brighten the look. It was just a bit to loud for my neighborhood, although I would have loved to leave it that way. Currently you can barely feel the exhaust at the tail pipes at idle which is a good indication of a low restriction exhaust. Anyway back to work for me, I'm taking pics along the way and I'll post them when I've finished.

Man this exhaust is loud! I love it, I just hope the neighbors will but hey they got used to me tuning my open headered drag car in the driveway. Seriously though I don't think I'd recommend an exhaust like this for anyone who needs to be relatively quiet but it would certainly make for an excellent track exhaust. I've been setting up my MSD timing computer and it's making the car run even better. I think I may need to slightly adjust the accelerator pumps but I'm gonna wait until I've got the advance where I like it. I've been trying to get a few good pictures but my digicam is giving me fits with the lights in my shop and a white car. I'm gonna try with my fathers camera this weekend.
