Post ClubSport shortshift?

On the other thread re:88 CE, someone mentioned that these models came with a "ClubSport short shift". Is this the same short shift commonly referred to as "Factory short shift"? Was considering a short shift kit for my '86 coupe, and the only ones i've heard of are the Factory or Weltmeister(sic?).
Also, i believe the '86--> had a shorter throw than previous models. Anyone with more info on this?

Thanks
Mike

You already have what is often called a semi short shift in your car oem, in that the standard throw is ~10% shorter than on pre '85 models. You can further shorten the shift another ~10% by installing kit # 911.424.931.00

If your car already has option M241 then you already have the fss kit from the factory.

There are 2 great articles on this subject in Up~Fixen vol viii by Russ Dickerson and Greg Gagnon

It is my understanding that the CS as did all other 87-89 3.2 did not have an actual shortshift. For the CS, the shiftlever was shortened approx. 1", less throw equals shorther shift.

If anyone knows of a real short shift kit for the G50 trans cars, I'd like to know too since I don't want to cut up my shiftlever.

That's correct the Carrera G50 87-89 is literally a shortened shift lever. Unfortunately, I don't recall a short shift kit for the Carrera G50. There are several for the 964+ G50's, however.

I was wondering what the deal with my shifter was because I read about a short shifter, but did not really notice that the throws were shorter. 1 inch cut is all that was done?

I keep finder out more and more little things that were done to the CS that were not really publicized....

I have installed the CS "short shifter" and can say that:

Yes, the CS shift lever is shorter (more like 3/4 in. {I measured it}). The portion of the shift lever below the fulcrum/pivot is the same length as the standard shift lever.

No, it's not worth the cost as I really don't notice a difference.

See the picture below to see how the shifter is assembled.

If you really want the shift throws to be shorter, the simple way is that you'll have to cut the lever down. You could change the pivot point of the lever, but that would require some creative welding and/or drilling and hopefully you can still select the gears properly with your new arrangement!!!
