Yes, a 1997 narrow body C4 993.

Apparently 1 was sent to the US.

We need a bit more to go on though...budget, cab, turbo...lots of options there.

Where do you live? Would you ever need AWD? What do you plan on using the car for? Track use? Weekender? Daily driver?

I would suggest picking up a Porsche Buyer's Guide of some sort from Amazon. That way you will have all model info in front of you at once. The one I have also list the common problems with each model year.

95-98 are very nice cars, there are no "lemons" during those years. However you will be paying a premium, these are among the most sought after Porsches. They are the last of the air-cooled.

Late 90's 911s are either 993s or 996s, you should visit those boards, search, etc. Lots of 993 vs. 996 posts (search) too on both.

Might want to avoid the first Glass Roof Targa's... Roof mounted from the outside, and didn't seal well at speed and was heavy, and ... well you get the idea...

I personally would not have a C4 if they gave it to me... My all wheel drive GMC is more enjoyable to drive than the C4's I have driven...

Now, if you would happen to come across a Diamond Silver '97 / '98 C2S, with full burgundy leather, and less than 50K on the Odo (see other thread:>))), I would be inclined to get my checkbook out and start scribbling...

Oh, keep in mind that you will probably want to upgrade the suspension to a set of Bilstein PSS9's... A VERY NICE way to fly! Take your time in setting them up to get the best out of them, but they are certainly the hot ticket for these Porsches...

budget and 993 (pre-1999) are pretty much mutually exclusive. If you find a 'cheap' 95-98, chances are it's in very poor condition.

I would agree with whomever posted to get a buyers guide, and I would add that you should do a good bit of research on ALL model years across the board to get a good idea on what each offers.

It does depend on the budget as the late 993s often cost more then the early 996s. The price of the 95 993s is coming down and a nice example can be had for the upper 20s. Make sure to get a good history-although that might be lost for some over 10 yo cars, and a PPI is mandatory.

I would recommend a black 95' 993 - they are known in certain circles to be the fastest

And those 16" rims are very light so the car goes even faster!
