Post Cabrio Top replacement

I have an 85 911 slant/cabrio. The top has a couple of small tears and is a bit difficult to put up.
Any ideas / insights on where to go for a new top?
Estimated cost?
Thank you-

Chris,

I recently went through a similar ordeal researching companies. The following company even has a one piece top to give the pre-89 a 993 one-piece appearance:

This one is pretty informative:

And of course Pelican Parts and Performance products always have all colors available. As a final source, Ebay! I just sold a 993 one piece top for $400 and deals for the pre-89 models are always surfacing.

Good luck!

How difficult are they to replace? I have an average level of mechanical aptitude. Did you install it yourself?

I had an upholstery shop do it that was familiar with Porsche's. It took them all day. I would not even attempt to do it myself.

I forgot to mention that Ebay sometimes has the complete top with the frame so it is basically a swap.

If you're a PCA member you may want to ask fellow region members for a reputable local shop to do the repair. Also check ads in Excellence and Panos- There's a shop located outside Phila that advertises in Excellence- "30 years Porsche top experience" - I cant recall the name right now.

In terms of swapping the top to the "993 look" that may not be the best option if you want to keep the car as original-looking as possible as it may adversely effect resale value if that is a consideration - (then again if the buyer likes it, it may be a plus)

good luck,

dan
