Default Original tire size for 1977 Targa

Hi guys, I just bought a 1977 Targa today. The car has been sitting up for over 5 years, but had new paint and new interior right before the owner blew the air box. Otherwise the car looks great. He just didn't want to mess with it anymore after that. His loss, my gain. Thank goodness I found this forum. Anyway, my question if anyone can help.

The car has 195/65R15's all the way around. Was this the proper tire size for this car? Any reccomendations otherwise? The owners manual was not in the car.
Thanks
Roger

P.S. I am a previous 944 owner and have now seen the light.

My '76 has 185/70VR15 on the front and 215/60VR15 on the rear - this is precisely what is specified in the handbook. The 185/70VRs are becoming difficult to obtain in the UK - to obtain a first class tyre I have to wait until Michelin produce a batch of what they now classify as 'classic' tyres.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see what is available here in the states.
Cheers!

or
