yeah, sorry, the dollar is very low these days boys so its a good time to buy a US P car.
And as a general rule the US cars tend to be really well looked after and have less rust problems on the west coast than rainy europe.
(after having a few nasty ebay experiences and hearing scary stories from others) I found my first 911 at a california dealer and imported it last year. so this second car i got from the same dealer as it happens as the service was trouble free and easy and i fell in love with this new one. (don't think i'm allowed to advertise the dealer on this forum (am i?).) bit more expensive than ebay but piece of mind is invaluable.
on a similar note there's tons of old vettes and mustangs and stuff appearing here, the US muscle car thing is really taking off in europe.
86 cab above looks gorgeous loaded. the person who buys it will be very lucky.

The dealer put the tool kit in the smugglers box. brilliant idea. - the frst guy i know to actualy use that thing for smuggling (albeit legal smuggling)
I'm not sure I would store the tool kit (or anything loose) in there. One of the tools could come loose and jamb your steering!

This is a very valid issue. When this era of car was delivered new the tool kit (pouch) was found at the base of the trunk area on the carpeting. Nothing small should go into the hash stash compartment unless it is not going to tangle with the steering mechanism. (I used to keep a first aid box in there when I had my new 911 sans a/c in Europe).

good point. guess it'll be fine for shipping though. as edgy said sitting in the nose on the carpet is standard (together with the wheel nut wrench i guess it helps weight balance to a minor degree in early swb cars too)

the topic of low dollar and 911's exported from US was brought up above. i think it could be interesting to see worldwide 911 values. if you take the link here www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk , some early 911's are going for 25 - 35 thousand UK pounds in england (50,000 to 70,000 dollars!) sure some are RHD examples but still its expensive, yet in italy recently i saw a lot that were really going a lot cheaper. germany has a lot on sites like mobile.de and the prices there have fluctuated up and down throughout the last year or so. its funny how the same cars has radically differing values. would be fun to see a world map with average values on.
