Default Tach / spedo tilt..yes tilt, or no tilt

OK, when I got my car I couldn't see anything above 80 miles an hour and kept hitting the rev limiter in first gear so I tilted the tach and the spedo. now the tach just looks stupid and the K&N/fabspeed airbox solved all the rev problems. and now 3,000 miles under my belt. I just want to put the tach back. really I want to put both back. what else can I do to see the speed and look stock again? it isn't a race car. do I just get use to it? I want to see the number, but I want it to look stock. what do I do?

Doug
I can only speak for myself, but I had the same issue as you did years ago and tilted both the spedo and tach. After changing them back awhile later I went back to tilted. I will not go back.

I rotated all of the guages in my 74. I did it because I was tired of everyone asking why the tach and speedo were angled funny. Once I turned them all, the questions stopped.

I've got a Momo steering wheel with P emblem. Not sure if I like it or not really. Can't say I'm a big fan of the standard SC steering wheel though.
The taco hasn't seemed to be a problem but I've certainly had to rotated the speedo. If I rotate it so as I can see between 60-80mph then I can't see 100-120mph................it is a dilema! If I rotate it further, then, you're right, it looks a little 'out there'.
With the amount of speed camera's around the U.K. at the moment it's probably safer to be able to see the slower numbers and have piece of mind at a glance.

Hmmm?

I remember a ride in my cousin's s-2000 with a radar detector that was constatly going off and a huge digital speedo telling the world how fast you were going. I'm gonna put the tach back and may rotate the spedo a little more. there is a great question......how far is too far?

I have a 350mm momo steering wheel and don't see a need to turn the tach. As for the speedo, in my case anyway, I can see up to 80mph with it upright. Beyond that you're in reckless driving in the eyes of the law and anything above that you really should be looking @ the road not the speedo. I did however turn my temp/press gauge so I can see both without problem.

I did a street bike track day and they actually make you tape over the speedo so you don't get the bright idea to see how fast you're going at the end of the straight and then oooohhhh there goes my braking point, hello tire wall...........

I've rotated my speedo to be able to see past 60 MPH. A shop I went to rotated it back to original position ... and I rotated it , again! I have a Momo Competition wheel, and can't see past 60 or so when the speedo is in the standard position (FYI: my speedo is grossly off. 80 on my gauge is 72 on my GPS, and other car's speedo's).

The rotation of the tach is a personal thing with some racers. They want the redline at the "12:00" position so they can use peripheral vision/glance to know when to shift. I personally don't need that, and track the car enough to know the engine's limit by engine tone/quick glance at the tach.

I think companies like Palo Alto Speedo or North Hollywood Speedo can make, or have, custom faceplates with the redline at 12:00. No affiliation, etc.

Be glad there isn't a back seat in the 911 that's big enough to hold two consenting adults or you might end up with a seventh one.

After installing my new Momo Competition and freshening up the gauge lighting, I decided to turn the tach and speedo for easier reading. I got tired of having to duck to see what was going on. I turned the tach so 3k is at the 9 o'clock, and the speedo so that 60 MPH is also at 9 o'clock. I realized after a quick drive that this was great because when the needles are sitting "level", I'm going 60 @3k. Very easy to read quickly....
Won't go back!
