Default Shift rod coupler

I am going to replace the shift rod coupler on my 1980SC.. It seems to be a straight forward process as described in Bentley and 101 Projects, but I have not found any mention as to if the new coupler needs to be greased, and if so what grease should I use...The old one, which by the way self descructed yesterday while in route from Dallas, leaving me with only 3,4, and 5th gears available, was covered in some grease..

TIA

Ralph

I don't believe the rear shift coupler needs any lube, other than a light shot of WD40 (or such) on the threads to ease re-inserting into the shift rod. A simple repair that you can do.

Did the coupler self-destruct, or just the bushings? If only the bushings, it's MUCH cheaper to buy a set of bushings (Pelican sells them) than it is to replace the coupler.
