Default 1981 911SC A/C conversion to r-134a refrigerant

I have been told that although the r-134a conversion will allow me to recharge with an $8.00 can from Autozone or the like, that I will loose about 5 degrees; that is, it will blow five degrees warmer. Can anyone with experience with this conversion fill me in?

I dont know if it is 5 degrees but I kow it doesnt cool as well, but I can service it myself, as often as I want, so it is always blowing out as cool as it can with the R134a.

My '84 was converted to R134a; it doesn't seem as cold as it could be, but on the other hand, if it is hot enough out that I am warm with the AC on full blast, it's probably too hot out to be driving a 23 year old air cooled car.

That's exactly my perspective, during the worst part of the summer I'll use the A/C in the morning, some evenings (depends on the humidity). Usually windows on the way home from work. When it's the most brutal part of the summer I drive the modern car. Although I now have Rennair parts (evaporator, receiver/dryer, and barrier hoses. Rotary compressor & R134A.) It's certainly better now than it was after changing to R134A without other parts. The old hoses leaked away the refridgerant.
