Action of headlight knob?

When the headlights **** is turned from left to right (clockwise), the dashboard lighting intesnity is increased. That is until I hit a soft stop. If I continue ~1/8 turn beyond this stop, nothing else happens. Is there some other action that is supposed to occur? In other cars, the interior compartment lights turn on. Is my 88 Carrera supposed to do that?
I did not see any reference in my owner's manual.

I just went out and checked my 88 Carrera it does the same thing. That soft spot detent just holds the switch in the full bright position. I think it lets you know when you've reached the end of the adjustment. I always have mine to the right fully at night for better instrument lighting. The switch is not tied to the interior lights (at least not on my 88) on our cars since you can/have to manually put them in one of three different modes (off/on/on with door open). Compared to mine, yours is working correctly.
