Question Consequences for 100mph plus in VA, MD ??

I highly suggest you take a look at a post which appeared on the 993 Forum titled "Got a speeding ticket at 110mph, options??" - 07/27. Reading thru the responses made me a bit nervous, to say the least. In a nutshell, the victim was from CA, and since each state has different laws -- I'm curious as to what local experiences have been with tix/fines/court appearances, in VA, and MD - in excess of 100mph?? Any nightmare fines? (according to this person, and others the automatic fine is $1400 in CA!! and 30 day license suspension)

Thanks!

Yikes! Looks like the V1 is a pretty good deal after all. A friend got a ticket for something like 80-85 mph, on 95 one day, I think it was 2 points and a few hundred bucks.

Summit Point drivers ed sounds like the way to go!

My friend got a ticket for reckless driving in VA and he paid close to $200 (including court fees) and had his license suspended for 30 days.

In Virginia it would probably depend on who caught you and how much above the speed limit you were going. I've heard of cases of people going over 100MPH on 65MPH roads and literally being put in handcuffs and put in patrol cars by State Police with their cars being impounded. I have no details as to what condition these people were in (drunk??) or how they acted (beligerant??). Local cops will like to pick you up, particularly if it's during one of their "traffic ticket festivals" that they seem to have quarterly, but from my VAST experience, they will cut you a break. State Troopers have a reputation for being merciless.

For what it's worth, the State Police appear to be implementing a new and varied series of unmarked cars. They are no longer limited to the Ford Crown Victoria "Police Interceptors" or whatever they're called.

Cheers...but not on the road in VA

Don't speed thru North Carolina either.

Especially on 2 lane roads where you least expect to see a State Highway Patrol.

As the other post suggested - they are without mercy.

Local police in the small towns have nothing better to do.

WOW a $1,400 fine would really ruin my day! Think of all the 911 parts you could buy w/ that! Fortunately my tickets all seem to be right around 20-25 over. I recently received a 2 pt., $70 ticket for going 74 in a 55. Then this morning a cop shooting radar walks out right in front of me on my way to work and points to ........... the guy beside me and waves him over! WHEW!!! My heart skipped about 3 or 4 beats on that one!

In CA, $35 won't even pay a parking ticket.I think fines start at $300 for speeding, you know 31 in a 25. Revenue ,Revenue.

I have had two situations here in Tennessee and neither were the same out come. When I was in my early 20s I was caught doing 75 in a 55 and was promptly hauled off to the pokey. I did however get out of the charges because I was driving a BMW 2002 and my mechanic said that there was no way my car could go that fast without causing major smoke because the head gasket was blown. This Christmas Eve afternoon I was flagged down on I-75N in McMinn Co. TN for doing well over 100 in a 65. The State Trooper asked me a few questions then sent me on my way. Needless to say all I thought when I saw that big Crown Vic in my little 911 mirror was "Well, I'm going to jail!" I was lucky to get off but I still had to change my pants afterward!

I got a reckless driving ticket in VA for just going 20 over the speed limit in my 911S 10 years ago.I ultimately got off, but it was a real mess with the insurance. 100 mph will more than likely get you a free ride in the patrol car. In most cases the trooper will have some discretion as to how to write you up, and might downgrade the ticket. Chances are though that 100 mph you will need to call your significant other to come pick you up at the station. Your second call should be to an attorney with local clout.

A friend of mine was stopped in Arizona for 100+. As soon as he stepped out of the car he was being educated on the subject of his rights and being given the free temporary use of some heavy wrist jewelry. The cop was nice enough to let me drive the car in instead of having it towed. And whereas I usually travel with little cash and depend on credit cards, that trip I was glad I had enough bail money handy after tapping my daily ATM limit.

Don't know the local fines- although 40 in a 25 will get you $135. But in the Puget Sound we have to watch for the hopped-up white Volvo station wagons and Dark Chevy Suburbans the troopers are using now in I-5.
