Question start-up problems

Sometimes my 3.2 1995 carrera won't start.
Yesterday I turned off the engine after an one hour drive. After a few minutes I tried to start it up again, but it wouldn't start. Later that day the problems were solved...

This morning it wouldn't start at all.
Somebody has a clue?

Thanks!

Lauke,

Your description of the starting problem indicates that your problem occurs at random times.

The first thing I would check is the DME Relay which is under the driver's seat (next to the DME control unit). Most 3.2 Carrera owners carry a spare DME relay because when it goes bad, the car doesn't run. Many times the DME relay will start going bad by producing sporadic starting problems. Anyway, that's where I would start looking.

Regards, Bruce

Lauke,

Bruce's comment on the DME are spot on. If that doesn't fix it, you need to give us more details on how it wouldn't start....starter wouldn't spin? Engine turned over but wouldn't catch? etc.

Cool

Hearing so much about the DME relay, it looks like a wise option to carry one as a spare part.

Is it a "special" relay, or does it have any "standard" specifications, so I can buy a cheap replacement in any hardware store?

The DME relay is a special relay, unlike earlier 911's where the relays were black or red. The 964 DME relay, for example, was superceded by the 993 DME relay, and costs around $22. I carry one in my glovebox. It would be a very special hardware store that would carry one

Thumbs up

Lauke,

Glad to hear that a new DME relay fixed your problem .

You should also carry a spare relay with you, just in case...

Cheers, Bruce
