I'm not from upstate NY but I can tell you the fastest way would be to fly. Hope that helps...

Ice, great answers, eh. If you do a MapQuest it will probably get you from Viagra Falls down to US17/Isomething new to US15 near Corning. Take US15 south to Williamsport PA and really enjoy the best of what will be I99 - the run from roughly Mansfield PA to Williamsport you should find interesting. At Williamsport follow the I380 south to I80 then west to US15 - don't take US15 thru Williamsport itself. Follow US11/US15 to I81 H'burg, go north on I81 for a shot right to I83 south to US322 to Hershey and follow your nose.
Have fun!
john

Hi Guys

Ian I did that route once before at just over 8 hours it seamed to take forever. I think last year I went along the 90 and then down. I think the major highways are the key as it is a long drive and I don't want to be on a scenic route. I am NOt taking the P-car so just getting their quickly is key as I have to wrk late Friday and will be leaving later at night.

John your route sounds familiar .

i think I will drag out the streets and trips and check it out..

Hey, Ice
You could take the Thruway (I90) to the I380s to I86/US15 to the US15s near Corning and then follow the route I gave. That makes it almost all 4lane. The 2lane is from just north of the NY-PA border to Mansfield then it's I99 (where you will wish you took the Pcar). US11-15 from Williamsport south is open access 4lane. Have fun - watch the weather.
john - still no sig

Um, Ice...I can't really comment on Mr. Valentine's products at this point in time. I just can't recall remembering that Senator...oh...wake up! The Thruway is mostly 75-80mph traffic and the troopers are often near the rest stops - watch the blind downhills. The I380 is pretty open and has good sightlines. The I86/US17 segment has a barracks in it, but it still runs 70-75mph til the construction with US15 near Corning (turn south before town). US15 south just before it turns two-lane north of the PA border is a bad spot. Do the speed limit exact thru the PA towns. South of Mansfield I99/US15 is low traffic in high country and beautiful - enjoy the run from Steam Valley to Trout Run southbound (it'll have the kids screaming) and remember to stay on it (gas) going northbound on the return. Do 55 along the river at Williamsport to the I380; there will be a PA HP on a long uphill after the Sunoco. As an overall warning: NY motor vehicle operators all think they can draft and PA operators paid for that left lane they're in. None of them are drivers. Hope you get good weather.

Over, and over, and over...seven years. I average (including pee stops) 55mph door-to-door DC to here. It has helped to be in either the Q45, the SC, or the Titan - I don't know about a Mennonitemobile. 8->
Buy gas after you get over the PA line going down and before you hit NY coming back, it's enough cheaper there than in NYS. The Sunoco at US220 on I380 is pretty cheap and has a bathroom. too. There is also a good Amish sandwich shop/gas station/grocerie/hunting supplies store farther south on US15 along the river around (iirc) Liverpool PA right-hand side southbound. Shortly after you'll leave US15-11 for US22-322 and cross the river to the east side. It's a fun ride if you like street circuits with walls on both sides. Then you hit a right-left to I81north then right to I83/US322 south and the route quickly stacks traffic - follow the signs to Hershey Park.
If you've got kids in that van it's gonna cost you when they hit HersheyWorld.
cheers
john
