Wow! Thanks for confirming all that and for checking with your mechanic. Supposedly the engine is a 3.0 (I'll get the number from the engine tomorrow).

btw, that's exactly what my guy said.

Thanks, again,

79 was a 3.0 "large intake" year. In 80 the intake changed for the US Spec cars.
78-79 were very solid. Totally galvanized body's, aluminum cased engines that didn't pull studs but did break them. These engines are known to go 300+K miles. I regret selling my 78 to get my 88

Default No Joy..yet

So I just called the owner and he and I are quite apart on the value of this car. The number he asked for was more than what the indie thought he would take. He's probably negotiating (as was I) so I might call him early next week and up my offer slightly.

In the meantime, if anyone comes across a good candidate for a 911 project car please let me know via PM.

Thank you all for your help.

does it have to be in NY? Cause if you are looking for one, I'm sure that if you look around at some mechanic's place, he'll have tons of "projects" lying around.

It doesn' necessarily have to be in NY but it would be easier wouldn't it

I know of a few porsche specialists around here so I am going to do the rounds over the next few weeks. I am thinking the only real criteria I have is that the candidate has to be reasonably complete.

ya, cause there are a few places down in Denver here that have porsche "roller" projects. Most of them I have seen have engines in them, with an "interior." I use that term loosely. It would need major work on the inside. I don't know about the engines. I found a 73 widebody slantnose targa replica here. All steel, needs paint, and an interior redo. the top still looks good, and the extreme wide wheels were stolen a while back. It has a 2.4L (POS) engine in it that ran. Its been sitting there for a few years, but it looks in decent shape. No rust that i can find.

I think checking the locals is my best bet. By the time I start shipping something like that it will will add to the cost probably more trouble than it's worth but thanks.
