I have driven many 911's from early ones to brand new ones and my favorite is the 3.2's. They have a great road feel and just do everything well. They don't do it as great as the newer cars, but they are still a BLAST to drive. I don't think I would get rid of my '85 for anything. I certainly wouldn't mind having a 993 or a 80's turbo. But I would do all of this while keeping the '85.

Michael is that original paint?

That is incredible... no swirl marks or defects anywhere...

I just bought a porter cable buffer and some lake of the woods pads, if my car ends up looking anything like yours I'll be laughing.

I owned a 1986 3.2 from 1997 to 2000. I sold it to get a 964 because I wanted a nicer car cosmetically to concours and I also thought I needed a faster 'toy' car.

Well, the 964 is nice. Really nice. I like it a lot.

However, last year I had to buy a 'beater' '84 3.2 to drive. I just missed driving the 3.2 cars and the 964 just let me a bit empty in the driving experience department. That car is a bit too refined for a weekend toy IMO. My brother has a couple SC's and those are great, but I really enjoy the ever so slight improvements in the motor with the 3.2's and like the archaic digital motor electronics as well. Kinda cool to have one of the first computer controlled 911's... That seems so '80's...

I'd post a pic, but everyone is sick of my cars...!

Michael, I want your car and I want it now. I had an 85 Carrera Targa and I wrecked it. I then got a 78 SC and had engine problems. I sold it and now have a 79SC with a rebuilt motor. I like it but some of the CIS issues I can't get used to. I hated the targa aspect of the Carrera but loved everything else about it. Basically I want a coupe Carrera and I want it now.

I have a problem with these cars. At least it is a problem strictly with 911's. So, I have it down to one model at least. I think daily about selling the SC (had it for 4 months) and getting a 993 or 996 and getting rid of the 530i daily driver.

These cars make you crazy is all I have determined. It is like a crack addiction. You will always want another and see what it is like.

If I had an 89 with working AC, I'd probably get off the bus right there.

I drove a low mile Carrera Speedster with the wide body, and MAN was that a nice car ! That effortless zing of extra power above 4K just did it for me.

I do like my SC as well.

Donkey, when you get the right one, you will pause in your addiction. Maybe.

Default And it's a Targa!

I have owned 4 Porsches -all with removeable tops. 78 Targa, 87 cab, 01 Box, now an 87 Targa. I too love the raw feel of the older cars.

Re the 993, an emphatic yes. Perfect complement to my Carrera, which was, ages ago, almost as pristine as a garage queen. They're two of the best from Porsche.

I've got a 993, will a late 80's Carrera still put a smile on my face? I'm not a power freak, I just love to FEEL the road when I drive. I love the classic 911 silhouette. I drove an SC and just couldn't enjoy the car for the transmission. Guess I need to take a drive... I've definitely got some sort of Porsche sickness that can only be cured by another 911 in my stable. Is the Carrera the answer?

Donkey, I've owned 19 Porsches and my 88 Carrera is to me the best of the lot. You'll know it when you find it.

I like that term...ageless. This is my third Carrera and I agree with the rawness feel. And this is my first Targa and I love to hear the sport exhaust with the top off.
