I agree that this car could sell in the $28,000 to $35,000 range depending on it's overall condition.

Well got back from the dealer a bit ago. They have made a first offer of $33,000 (including tax savings) for my 911. I have turned them down so far, but am waiting to see what they will do with the car they have that I want. I also found out today that there were only 155 wide bodies made in 1988. Of these less than 20 were coupes! Now the question is does this mean anything?

It means if you can hang on to it for a little bit the right buyer will pay between $34-36K

I suspect the dealer was planning on getting money back from you when you purchase the other car. I cant see any dealer giving you what it is worth unless they are going to make money.

Beautiful widebody you have there. KEEP IT!.....or trade it on an 83' white SC in Florida.

Just an update for those who care. I ended up trading for a 2001 C2 coupe. The dealer just sold my old car for $41,000! I know that as an individual there is no way in hell that someone would have paid that much for it. Oh well I owned it for 13 years and got most all of what I paid for it back. Guess it was a win win situation.

Good for you Doug - and I am glad you are happy. I do think that 10 years down the road you are going to say to yourself that you should have never sold the car - I guess I was pretty close recommending $38k huh? Congrats

That's excellent! You received a premium for you car, and I'm sure the new owner will feel like he/she just purchased something way better than a "new" car...way to go!

Unfortunately I did not get the premium the dealer did. They gave me $33000 in trade and sold it for $41000. Granted I know that the best I could have done was mid 30's. I just don't have the contacts that they do.

You would have never received $41,000 on the private market IMHO. Maybe $35,000. At $41,000 (no disrespect to your old car) the new buyer got raped...and hard. You are well into real turbo territory there at that price. Don't fee so bad...$33,000 plus tax break for trade on new car is pretty good I'd say.

That said, I love the 491 Coupes!

Ouch drew. you may be 100% correct, but it still hurts. look at how quickly it sold, the buyer is still pinching himself to see if it's real. some of us would pay $41,000 just to have a place to escape to, this guy gets a porsche to go there in. if you look at just the "fine art" part of the deal it was a killer deal.

Hey he did fine, I wanted that car so much it hurt, but had family obligations... does it draw attention away to say that I have a 7k mile 491 cab.... probably not, have no fear, I just am embarking on a 928 full redo to make it perfect, and I will be upside down as hell.. pics to follow, he got a great car and did well.
