Most of the literature I have read shows slower times on the 964 than the 3.2. Does anyone know if that is the case? If so, why. Maybe I have been reading wrong and/or misleading info... Just curious.

granted the 964 had more power but it was a 140kg/300lb heavier car) the carrera 4 was heavier again) so it doesnt surprise me. wouldn't be much in it though
my porsche bible here says:
carrera 1210kg + 231hp = 5.6 sec & 152 mph top speed
964 C2 1350kg + 250hp = 5.7 sec & 162 mph top speed

Hmmm, not the literature I have seen. This link summarizes the stats from a variety of sources for the 964 and 993:
http://www.weissach.net/964-993_RoadTestSummary.html
Most 3.2 tests I have seen show the 0-60 around 6.0-6.2 Sec. One stat that is commonly posted due to it's quickeness was a 5.3 or 5.4 Car and Driver got with an '84 (but then I think Car and Driver managed a 4.8 with the 964).

You can't compare a Euro spec 3.2 liter car with 231 DIN hp with a 207 hp (DIN) US spec car. Plus, the Euro spec cars tended to be lighter due to less standard equipment.
However, the 964 line had the same hp and torque ratings worldwide. A first for the 911 lineup. So, I guess you can compare a Euro Spec 3.2 with a Euro spec 964...
My US Factory Sales Brochures list the following:
1984 3.2 Carrera 0-60 in 6.3 seconds
1986 3.2 Carrera 0-60 in 6.3 seconds
1987 3.2 Carrera 0-60 in 6.1 seconds
1990 964 C2 5 speed manual 0-60 in 5.5 seconds
1990 964 C4 5 speed manual 0-60 in 5.7 seconds
1990 964 C2 Tiptronic 0-60 in 6.4 seconds
1992 964 C2 and C4 5 speed manual 0-60 in 5.5 seconds
Drive a bone stock US spec 964 back to back with a bone stock US spec 3.2 Carrera and even the seat of the pants dyno will tell you the 964 is faster in all aspects.
Hope this helps,
Jay

via Frere's book, the Auto, Motor & Sport #s...
'87 Club Sport: 0-100kph in 5.9 / 0-160 in 14.1 / 0-200 in 23.8 / std km in 25.7 / max @ 154.1mph
'89/'90 C2 : 5.5 / 12.9 / 21.3 / 25.0 / 164
{interestingly, except in top speed, the '84 SC/RS "outperforms" the '92 Carrera RS, though the test sources are different}

Thanks for the info. I have not been able to do a seat of the pants comparison, as I have not had the chance to driive a 964. I was just a little curious based on the info I have read.
Cheers!

It has much to do with the Horsepower/*****-size ratio!!! Now if it were a Black 3.2 Carrera against a white 964, the black car will win every time.
All joking aside, my friend has a 1993 964 that could trounce my old 3.2 (both are Cabs). My ***** took offence and I was forced to get the 993.
