Default Are buying Fuchs a "good investment"?

I'm catching the Fuchs bug, damn you guys....I've got an 85 carrera with aftermarket wheels (had them when i bought the car last year) and I'm contemplating replacing them with polished pedal Fuchs. I see Moses on pelican working with someone that is creating 17" cast replicas that has a lot of pelicanites interested because of tire selection.

Does anyone have an opinion on the prices of Fuchs holding, going up, or going down within the next 5 years?

Fuchs are the original equipment but they are expensive to replace.

Other threads here discuss the sophisticated ( for it's time) process to design this strong, lightweight wheel that has withstood and continues to withstand very demanding track use from DE hacks like me and racers. The design analysys likely did not consider stesses intripduced by wider/ or lower profile tires.

Fuchs are forged resulting in a better/stronger/tougher grain structure in the metal.

I wouldn't consider a cast replica for anything but easy street driving or as bas e for a coffe table

Personnlyy, I wouldn't uses a cast

Sorry for the messy post.

I'd say they are probably a decent investment even if you have to by them new from Fuchs, you'll get a lot of hard use from them and they'll always retain a good portion of their value unlike many most othere parts you'll buy.

no car part should be considered an investment.

The original Fuchs won't last forever. Every time you corner or brake with one you're adding to the number of stress cycles for the wheel. After enough stress cycles, they crack. As they age, this is going to make them less appealing to racers or anyone concerned with the dangers of a wheel breaking at high speed.

There will come a point where Moses' brand new cast wheels (Porsche's current wheel offerings are cast) will be stronger than the older Fuchs out there.

Jeff Alton on the Pelican board is making 17-inch and 18-inch forged (not cast) Fuchs-style centers to make 3-piece wheels out of. These seem like a no-brainer for those of us who like the look but have accepted the fact that 15-inch and 16-inch tire availability is dwindling.

agree, most of the time car parts are not investments....if history was any guide, Fuchs have been an exception..

As you guys can tell, i'm trying to somehow justify spending $1500-2500 on a set of wheels for a street drive....it's your fault really.....if i can get most of my money back on this "investment of wheels", then it "stings" a little less when the money leaves my hands Also, it would be a good arguement to use for my wife

They may add some minor value to the car if you ever decide to sell it. If two 911's sat side by side and all was the same except for the wheels. I'd probably pay an extra $ 1,000 - 2,000 for the one with the fuchs wheels versus the aftermarket wheels. I think most would...especially if they were 7's and 8's or 9's.

If money is a concern and it's a street-driven car, get 6's and 7's and add spacers to fill the wheel wells out. It'll cut your costs in half, roughly, and wider tires are going to make a street car louder anyway.

Now Jack, that is a REALLY good idea. I can get the look I want, filled out and all, real fuchs, and not have to sell my right kidney to get them

Believe it or not 15" "Phone Dials" were standard equipment on '85's. 16" Fuchs
were an option. A Cerificate of Authenticity from Porsche would tell you most
of the major options the car was delivered with.
