Default Tips on removing gas tank?

Hey all,
I need to remove my gas tank to do a Smart Racing Anti Sway bar install.
Any tips?
Thanks
Rod

Tips? It's pretty easy. Just accept that you're going to get some gas spilled on you, the garage will stink of gas for a week, and your wife will get mad about the smell.

G'day 911 rod,

I was told to remove all the fasteners and pipes etc then put a trolley jack with a suitably sized piece of wood under it and jack it up! In theory jacking the tank out of the body!! This is to break the sealant between the tank and the body.

I used this method when I removed mine and it worked just fine. I only lifted it about 1 to 2 inches and then pushed down on the body to make it pop out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Good tips.
How about draining the tank and disconnecting all of the hoses?
Just my luck the tank is full for storage!

Rod: The last time that I did that project was at the shop, so draining, etc., was much easier. Step #1, remove the battery. At home I would remove the sending unit and syphon using the opening. I would transfer the fuel, 5 gallons at a time, to another car until the tank was as empty as I could get it. Then I would put my 13-quart pan under the tank and disconnect the return line. That will pretty much empty the system, then disconnect the pump suction line, followed by the easy-to-see hold down clamps inside the trunk (3), the filler neck hose, and lift that baby out. Call your dealer and order the special weatherstrip seal so you'll have it for your installation.

.. or you could sell that gas at 1.15 per litre and make money since it has gone up so much since you last filled it :-)

PS a few of us will be out your end of town tomorow Rod.

UCR skid pad for us rookies .... even in the snow no less...

Brutal!
I had to syphon out 4 5 gallon containers of gas through the fill hole with one of those $2.00 cheepo syphon thingies!
I would have bought one that went on the end of my drill or something else but all of the stores are closed.
Anyway. Gas is out. Tank is disconnected. Car is jacked up.
In the morning I'll remove the skid plate and detach the hoses at the bottom.
I just came home and the house smells like gas!
Glad I don't have a wife to complain!
