Default Wire gauge?

quick question.. I am replacing my heater blower motor (just in time for summer I might add) anyway, longer story shorter, I need to make an extension between the wires coming out from the car into engine bay to the blower motor.. need to make sure the wires are the correct gauge..

thanks

Short addition of wire would not be much of an issue as little resistance is added. Use something about the same size or larger like lamp cord (18g.)

A bigger concern would be proper dressing of the wires so they don't rub on metal or touch something hot.

Rob: 1.5 mm for both the ground and hot... (I think that converts to 14 guage but I'm not 100% sure).

If you know the current (amps) or wattage, you can use this for wire sizing http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_1/chpt_12/3.html for capacity of various wire sizes and types.

I would suggest the THHN wire you can get at any decent hardware store unless you need to match some of the German color codings.

FWIW,

10 gauge - 480 watt capacity
12 gauge - 360 watt capacity
14 gauge - 300 watt capacity
16 gauge - 216 watt capacity
