Default heat exchangers spotless, cat and muff ugly

now here is my first serious question in a month. Why do my heat exchangers look brand new, but the cat and muff look like they ar 19 years old? Even the bolts look original. "old and rusty" would be the bolts too. it looks like they have never been touched. how does one "system" look so different going in and going out??? Is one stainless and the other cold rolled? I'm thinking steve wong chip or is that lost on a stock exhaust?

ugly muff eh? i'd see a doctor

the heat exchangers may well have been replaced at some time. some of them had a tendency to get worn/rust out due to the high temps they experience

SW chip + euro-premuffler +M&K/Monty Muffler is a popular combo on the Carreras

steve can re-map your chip if you get one now and upgrade the exhaust later on

this should be a close up of my mufler on top and heat exchange in the center and the cat on the side. (keep in mind even with all the rusty bolts, this was the nicest car I could find.) Is this entire exhaust ready to be replaced before it's too late or is it normal to have this much rust? It looks like the bolts will shatter before they unwind.

help

this is the drivers side rear view. the rest of the heat exchange is clean, the cat. missed the picture, but is rusty like the muffler. you can see rust on head bolts (valve cover bolts), is that a disaster in the making? the rest of the car is pristine in comparison. is this rust terminal?

looking at the terrific shape your exchanger hardware is in I would say they have been changed. The valve cover studs and nuts hardly ever rust if you have oil leakage like me :-) there are relatively low torque so should come off no probs with some PB blaster.

My exhaust is this rusted and works fine , bang on it with your nuckles, if it feels solid it probably is.

I did remove all my hardware with a die cutter and put all stainless in though ..... I was bored one afternoon ....

ice, did we run everybody off yesterday? I got the message to shut up.

The thought of that much rust following me aroud makes me nuts. I think I can by all the nuts and bolts from performance and rebuild it

sorry, boss walked in...where was i?

the hose clamps on the heat exchange were on list of replaced parts at time of purchase. I'm not sure if the orange rings were replaced, i think they were. it was clutch, syncros, oil return lines, tires, battery, bla, bla, bla, air filter, oil, oil filter, flush radiator and so on.

most of your HE is stainless, isn't it? cross over and cat and muffler, (at least the stock one i have) are all steel or a different grade of stainless, and may or may not be 100% covered with surface rust.
I have a stock system from 87, the HE look great, if not perfect. The cat, muffler and crossover look like ****, and the this cat is new from 1999
