Looking for G50 coupe - California
I had the final family blow-out today. I had teenage rebellion - they say they don't fit in the back seat of my Passat anymore so four doors are no longer a transportation requirement.
Help me live my dream. Can I replace an 84,000 mile Passat with an 84,000 (+/-) mile 1987-1989 Carrera coupe?
Must be of the "bulletproof 3.2" variety with good a/c. If its Venetian blue my wife says it will match her eyes. If its red it will match mine.

I have a very nice cab that is for sale, why get a coupe in california!!!? Anyways its not venetian blue but its a very gorgeous granite green metallic (looks more greyish than green). Its sweet and it has had over 11K USD poured into it recently. It is very bulletproof, however I doubt youll find ANY G50 car with "good" AC. Send me a PM with your phone number and I will be in touch to help you out, even if you DONT want to buy my cab.

Thanks guys. I don't have enough posts to PM anyone yet. Douglas, if you have any contact info on that coupe, maybe you can pm me the details?
Oshin- I've had convertibles (not Porsches) and I'm at that hair thinning time of life that I would need coverage up top when the lid of the car was down. I would just hate to remind myself of it every time I put the top down Funny how some financial security, "middle age" and dreams seem to correlate.

Just budget in a couple of K extra for an aircon upgrade and get as late as you can as the vent system is better 87 onwards (I think) that covers G50 anyway. You'll know the dash vents are large rectangles not angled slits as in the earlier models. Even if the standard aircon is working well it wont be good compared to other cars.
Be patient and hunt out a nice example, good luck dude!

Brent,
I regretfully need to sell my ’87 Venetian Blue Carrera Coupe. It has 140K miles but many upgrades, a great running and handling reliable daily driver and grand tourer. It is currently stored for winter but I plan to have it road-ready by the end of April. I have a lot of photos. Alaska is a long ways but I may even take a road trip this summer. It will be an imperfect, eminently driveable, pretty car for a reasonable price, with many reliability issues resolved. If you’re not in a hurry and would like to discuss it further send me an email at dermond911@yahoo.com. Rennlist and PelicanParts forum members gave me immense assistance in my DIY projects, so you could search my posts at these sites for much of the story.

I have a 1987 Guards Red Coupe with black leather interior. All original paint and interior. Absolutely no accidents or body work. It is in the shop having $3500 worth of A/C work (complete A/C rebuild). I recently(one month ago) put 14K worth of repairs into the car. Everything is new. The wheels were just refinished by Al Reed to factory original. The car needs nothing!!!!!!! Real A/C!! If interested let me know. Mark M. mmasotto@mail.com (P.S. 74,000 original miles, all documentation)

there is a car you have to look at in L.A. it could be the last remaining coupe that has not been converted into a GT2 rocket! It is on autotrader. do a porsche, 911, 100 mile, 87-89 search w/o a $$$. it doesn't say ven blue met, but it could be!!! you could probly get it for less than $20,000.
give it a look, it is georgious

oops.
Photo didn't post. Better read the instructions!
Anyway, it is a 87 Marine blue coupe that Doug pointed me towards. 110k miles with a top end rebuild. Got the thumbs up on the major mechanicals from TRE but there's some suspension freshening in the future. Can't have a car with nothing to do! Drove it home from LA Friday night loafing at 80 up I5. We're in that courtship phase where every morning I cross my fingers before I hit the key and hope it starts.
My wife loves it too. I had to fight her for the keys Saturday morning (I let her win) for dibs on the first daylight run. The car drops a lot of jaws for less than the cost of a new Civic.

hooly crap brent,!
did you just give me credit for your new baby?
I hope you give me the blame when something goes wrong. I am so excited for you. I have more fun with autotrader than you know. ever since I was a kid I wanted an '86-'89 cabriolet. I have a picture of myself when I was 19 sitting in a red targe slant nose in fairfax, va. turns out now looking at the picture the car was mostly fiberglass. still love porsche.
tell your wife the car looks great on her. how much did you get it for? glad to hear it passed the ppi. you totally deserve that car.
post pictures soon,
douglas

Yes, Douglas, it's your fault. I had seen the car advertised but waffled at the mileage. After you pointed it out again, I talked to my mechanic about the mileage and he said he would be happier with a rebuilt 110k car than a 90k car without the documented rebuild.
Now I have a choice of what to drive to work. A 40 year old Camaro or a 20 year old Porsche. I have been voted the coolest dad in the world by my sons.
