Cleaning up engine compartment
I own a 1977 911s. The engine compartment does not look that good because of large air filter box and blower motor. i am wondering if anyone has tips or advice on cleaning up the engine compartment. I have always tried to keep it original. were any of the above mentioned parts specific to canada & us? If anyone has suggestions please advise.

Lose the blower motor and that long heater hose that crosses the engine. I replaced the block off plate and the single duct coming off the engine fan with the early style heat ducts. Really cleans up the engine bay. It's easy to return back to the original setup too. I believe there is a tech article here about this process. Backdating to early style heat. Not to be confused with backdating to early style heat exchangers.

Damn Rob! ...he keeps beating me to my "good advice". PASO, I did the same with my SC, took out the silly looking blower motor and obtained the ducts from the early seventies 911 to revert back to old-style heating.
Beware, if you have chilly Winters, the heat isn't all that great as it is engine RPM dependent...it no longer gets the "boost" from that goofy looking blower motor!

PASO,
I cleaned up the engine compartment by retrofitting the fresh air source. Bill Gregory did a nice tech article on the subject that can be found in the Rennlist Library or you can go to this link, http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000034.
If you go this route you will not have any difficulties except to fit the port side duct work you will have to remove approximately 1/2 inch to clear the tensioners hard oil line. I went even further and removed the emissions pump and that really makes a big difference.

All good advice. I did the above to my '77, those 25 year old heater blowers never work anyway. No regrets.
Another thing you can do is remove the cruise control servo.
Sans air pump, cruise servo and heater blower the engine is MUCH easier to work on, cleaner in appearance and probably 20 lbs lighter.
Clinton's link isn't working. Here is the correction

Without A/C, smog pump, cruise, and the heater blower, the engine bay will look quite a bit cleaner. This is the way mine is now, and I like it much better than the cramped mess it was. Swapping the CIS for Weber or PMO carbs really looks nice, but they have their drawbacks.

I concur with all the above. I backdated my heater system, ditching the heater blower and related hoses. I also ditched the infamous AC system and air pump. Now it actually looks like a motor is there. Makes repairs and maintenance much much easier. Probably saved at least 35lbs in the engine compartment itself.
