Iceman- Not to worry! My woman loves the Shark, despite the fact that it's a 1978 and bone stock. The 911 would most likely be my ride unless I have to haul my photo gear for work( the shark can hold all my gear no probs).
I would rather find a car with a little less performance but stronger in the reliability department. I can always do some mods down the road if I feel I need more performance.
Is the fact that the motor is air cooled that plays into this reliability factor? and the frequent rebuilds? My 928 has 185000km and can still do 120 mph without breaking a sweat and has only had a TB/WP just this past summer.
I have many other questions but, from what I've read here, it sounds like Mr Zimmerman's book with far exceed my range of questions. I'll keep you all posted about my progress and when I have narrowed down exactly what I'm looking for.
Thanks so much all of you.

The 911 motors are nearly bulletproof. Many examples of 175K, 200K, 250K miles with no rebuilds. Mine has 130,000 miles and is just broken in, IMO.
If the car is maintained correctly, they are very long-lived.

There are some "gotchas", too. Old 911s are not for inattentive drivers or bluetooth addicts.
