Surging 82 911SC
A friend of mine bought an 82 SC. It runs pretty well however after getting warm it sometimes will surge from idle to about 2800 rpm or so back and forth repeatedly. Even sometimes bad enough to quit running. Any ideas what the cause could be? We cleaned the throttle body. The bottom half of the aircleaner assembly was loose from the intake and we tightened that back up but no change in the surging. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Surge is usually caused by a too-rich mixture. First thing to do is verify the CO%, and be sure that you follow the service procedure as outlined in the factory manual.

The warm up regulator (WUR) no longer controls the pressure at the top of the fuel distributor. That's why the mixture must always be set with the engine at full operating temperature, after the WUR can't mess up the test.
