A bit outside the price range quoted on title to this post, however, I have put about 390 miles on this 08 WRX STI and I must say it has FAR exceeded my expectations.

I dont know if you folks would consider this 4 door a "sports car", but my vote would be for a 04-07 Cadillac CTS-V. 400hp/400ftlb 6 gears, yummy. It does have 4 doors, but I would say it could smoke alot of cars on the street. My 77 911 would probably be jealous.

Morgan!

It may not be jealous, from a performance point of view, but my 911 would be jealous of the deep affection it would now find divided between two cars that I love. Pretty soon Oedipally based competetive striving would emerge, and who knows how this would be acted out. I, of course, would need to be careful not to play favorites.

But what if I really do have a favorite?

No, I am gonna remain a one car car lover. I hate to refuse your 35K, but ... I can stand to hurt my 911's feelings.

Nice Cossie stevenuppal! The Cosworth was my generation's ( 30 somethings ) Scoobie, though no where near as common on the road. Real bad boy's motor Were they just a UK thing? Are those Escort RS wheels on it? Thought they had BBS wire spoke look wheels?

Bull30,

As an owner of one Lotus, immenently 2, can you comment on the "kit car" characterization?

I gotta say I've drooled far, wide, and long over many a Lotus.

Two highschool teachers had Europas:

I drove a Esprit in 1982 -- ok, it was just across the car wash parking lot where I worked my first job, but it was really something to this 17 year old kid, I'll tell ya!

I had a 1974 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special... Although it too was a blast to drive, it was very much the kit car... Not so the Elise... The Elise reminds me alot of my Europa as it handles like a go-kart but that's where the similarities end... The Elise would suck the doors off the Europa, the brakes are outstanding and the handling leaves the vast majority of the Porsche crowd in the dust trying to catch up... And, that's spoken by a true lover of Porsches...

Take one for a test drive... It will blow your mind... Take a Supercharged Elise (SC) for a test drive and you will find out why it has better slalom speeds and lateral accelleration than a 997 Porsche Turbo...
