Default Brake light delay

The fuse blew the other day on my '86 Carrera's brake light, no problem, popped in a fuse and was on my way. Now I became paranoid of the brake lights, and noticed that they don't come on right away. They only come on after pushing the brake pedal down past a certain point, which most of the time isn't as hard as I usually use the brakes. Would this be a bad brake light relay, or a loose connection?

Most likely you'll have to replace the pair of switches on the side of the brake master cylinder.
