Did an 83 SC have reverse lights as standard?

US sc's had reverse lights. Federal Law. Likely a "federal" law where you are too, assuming you are not in a 3rd world country
Do your rear lenses have a thin White band, about 1-1.5 inches wide? That would be for the reverse lights.

The guy I bought it from told me cars that age didnt have reverse lights as standard.
I have always wonderred if this was true.
I bought a new centre reflector and fitted it yesterday, it is a 964 reflector (as my car has a C2 converion). Does anyone know what the 3 wires on the reflector do?
BLACK
GREY
BROWN
I then have 2 wires coming from the car?
One connects to Brown, one connects to Black, and the fog lights work?
But I assume the fog lights do not need 2 wires and the other is for the reverse. Assuming this is correct then the switch on the gearbox may be at fault? (thanks guys).
Please let me know about the wires.
Thanks

Not sure about the wires buy my 78 has reverse lights , what does that tell you !!
I can tell you that until the 80s sometime Australia did not require white back up lights, they could be amber. Not sure about the UK though.
