88 Coupe Venetian Blue for sale, 71k mi, asking $24,500 - did I price this right?

the only reason i'm thing to sell is to get into a 993. If I could keep both I would, but at this point of my life, that would be too much money to tie up. I keep on dreaming of my speed yellow 993

I'm in a different market (Toronto) but recently purchased my 88 coupe with 61,000 mi. for the equivalent of $24K US funds so your price seems reasonable to me. The only "flaws" in mine were the odd touched up paint chip on the hood. Haven't had to invest a dime so far. I would have paid that for a Venetian Blue that had been well cared for and had orig. paint. The color would be a plus for me. Good luck.

Its sounds pretty close to me. I have a client with a 87 911 Targa, 56k, 10 disc Sony CD, No dings or scratches, new Z rated Pireii's & Targa top. He is asking $24,900. I think its a great value for one that clean!

I think you are right on with the asking price.
You ask a lot of questions and seem to be a pretty straight-forward person. From experience, your style in selling the car will make a difference. It might take you longer, but if you make the prospective buyer comfortable and present him/her with your history, why you are selling etc. I don't see why you can't get $23,500-$24,000 if the everything with the car checks out.

As others have indicated, don't underestimate the impact of timing on the price that you get for your car. There are two prices for every car - the "perfect market price" - which you have to be willing to wait potentially a long time to receive - and the "have to sell it now price", which will be several thousand dollars lower.
I think that many of the $27-30k 3.2 Carreras that you've seen advertised are in the former category - listed by people who don't really want to sell and aren't in any rush.
You need to decide whether having the 993 right away is worth the $2-3k less that you'll receive for your 3.2 Carrera - if not, stick to your guns.

Thanks for the great advice. I guess I could blow it out the door at $20k or so but was hoping to get more if I can. I didn't think I was in a hurry to sell, but it does stop me from buying a C4S if one comes to the market... like the 97 I am about to look at tomorrow night at a gents home in Bethesda. It's Arctic Silver with Black int, 25k miles, exc shape according to it's owner, alum gauge trim?, alum door sill plates, for $56k or best offer. I first was only considering Polar Silver but am open to Arctic if it's nice. I haven't really seen one in person other than polar that I could remember.
I'd like to pay closer to $50k but don't know how bad he wants to sell. He's had it on cars.com since 9/6/02. He's got someone interested from 12 hours away and is getting a PPI done tomorrow for him.

Steve, I'd say be patient if you can. With the world wide web, your market has become huge over night. There are a lot of people that will fly in to see a car that seems to meet their "dream car" specs. Our market is generally a little more mature and financially prepared to look all over the country to find what it is that they're looking for. I flew 1200 miles to see & buy a '93 535im.
Also, It's doesn't make sense for anyone to say that your price is too high without knowing where you are geographically. That has a ton to do with the price. I paid $15k for that 535im in CA, drove it 2 years, and sold it in WA for $16,800.
Friends with a comparible car in the midwest-east coast couldn't get $14k.
Decide what you're willing to take, and advertise all over the net.

I agree, be patient, I just sold my 86 coupe with 56k for $29900.00 The car was immaculate much as you describe yours, if you have the time wait for the right (appreciative) buyer. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Just for a point of reference, this past January
I paid 19,600 for my 88 Coupe with 106,000 miles.
It needed about 1500 for brakes(complete), major
tune-up an so forth. Mechanically it is perfect.
Original paint with very small dings in the hood
not noticed by the casual observer. One crack in
the dash(it spent it's first thirteen years in Fla.)an normal drivers seat wear. It now has 109,000 an no problems.

Thanks again, everyone. Boy did I pick the worst time to sell my car. It was so beautiful 3 weeks ago when I planned all this. Now there is 8 inches of snow on the ground! Maybe I'll need to wait till spring to attend to this selling of my car thing, and buying a Silver C4S.
It turned out to be more of a challenge than I thought to simply find a 97 C4S for $50K anyway. I thought some of these sellers would be dropping their prices to around $50k but that's just not what I'm finding to be the case. The one I saw the other day with 25k miles was gorgeous and unmolested, but $56k was the lowest they would go, for now. I REALLY wanted this car, too.
Maybe this spring will see a change in pricing and interest in my car. I certainly don't want to be test driving my 911 with anyone in this weather. I can barely get my 740i up the street!
