Post Warnings lights & what does it mean?

Hi
I'll post my question initially without going into too much detail, then as demand requires (eternal optimist)increase as necessary. My car is a 1982 930 UK spec. The question is simply, what situation will cause both my brake and generator warning lights to come on at exactly the same time. Raising the engine revs to ~1500rpm so far turns them both out. I can understand the generator warning light, but why is the brake light coming on at exactly the same time??? Suggestions please

Most likely because the voltage regulator is also shot, causing a surge that causes the brake light to come on. If you replace the entire unit (alternator/regulator), you will cure the problem.

You may want to check your belt tension. If it's slipping, lower RPMs may not be spinning the alt fast enough....

Thought I'd keep you informed of progress. As luck would have it the warning lights came on as I was reversing out of the garage, so I was able to perform some basic diagnositc tests with the help of my 8 year old son. With the warning lights on, no voltage was being delivered to the battery, perhaps even a slight drain. When reved to >1500rpm then 13.5 volts was delivered. Therefore I guess the voltage regulator is indicating a wish to go into retirement. I guess an exchange alternator is called for. THanks for your input
