Is it just me, or do others feel the same?

Now I don't mean to offend anyone that owns one, but everytime I see a "slant nose" I feel sick...to me the front end IS what makes the 911 and when you take that away, I feel it looks butchered...just my 2 cents...

Have to say I agree... I don't know how the idea ever got started... I guess when pop-up lights were fashionable, and the 935 was a factory race car, they had a certain appeal. I don't know why slant-nose cars carry a premium over regular ones... I would spend that $5,000 on sooo many other things for my 911 or 930... just my $0.02...

I agree - just not my style. It's not so much the nose but the rear vents on the fender flares. I have seen pics of the 968 style hood/lights on the 964 with the Turbo S rear ducting which looked quite slammin.

I am surprised the slant nose is looked down upon. Given the consensus that "every Porsche made is (or should be) a race car", one should recall the genesis of the sn...
aero-advantage for the 935s to compete for overall wins at very high speed tracks.
the positive 2nd order consequence was that a wider market (buyers wanting the "latest racer look") for other high performance component pkgs. was created & thus the factory responded w/ many neat options. we all win.
btw, I prefer the Classic look as well - not even spoilers on my Carrera (all that lack-of-lift might encourage me to explore the very high speed envelope).

To each his own. I'm not a fan of the slantnose, although I understand it helps mitigate the 911's lousy drag coefficient.
I'm not a fan of the look of Targas, either, although a lot of guys prefer them to the coupes.
For that matter, I'm not crazy about the looks of the 914, 944, 968, 996, Boxster or Cayenne. There are loads of people who prefer those models, though, so I can't say they're sub-standard, from a design or a performance point of view.

I don't like it either, and I think it is appropriate and looks good on a 935. I have seen a few street versions that I thought were horrendous with headlights (or foglights) in the bumper. To me the most tame version with pop-up lights looks like a 1st generation RX-7.

It's an individual thing. I did not used to like them until finding one for sale one day.
Fell in love and wondered why I did not like them before. They are different, like an RS, a 911 speedster, or any other non standard 911.
I bought that car which is an after market conversion done right. I feel things can be changed or modified without concern for originality or for PCA concour rules. I love it for it's uniqueness.

I agree- the slantnose is somewhat ugly. It doesn't match the rounded rear of the car. But I like Targas, which some think are ugly too. I thought a targa with a tail was a no-no, but now learn that handling is much improved at higher speeds. Each to his own...

I wholeheartedly agree with Martin on this one. I wouldn't turn one down, nice cars and I could get used to the pop-up headlights, although my father (who was the original owner of my 911) despises of the slantnose and says the 911s character is all in those headlights.

Just another owner who does not like the slant nose. Reminds me of a Japanese style with those pop-up lights. The classic 911 look has to include those raised front fenders and lights. I too find it hard to believe that slant nose cars demand a price premium.
