Post 1988 Carrera Purchase

Hello all.

I'm looking at a 1988 Carrera Coupe purchase. Motor has 138K miles (no leaks), new tranny and clutch put in 50K miles. Interior perfect; Owner has most records. Lowered suspension, repainted and polished 16" Fuchs with fresh P7000s, H5 lights, sunroof cables, New front calipers, four rotors and pads all around. Replaced all speakers, including MB Quart in doors. Replaced head unit with Alpine cassette tuner, power amp ADS 320 watt plate amp, Alpine CD changer.

Cosmetically, needs some attention-slight dent in right rear quarter, some bumper scrapes and some clearcoat coming up. Estimate about $1500.00.

The seller is asking $15K. Would like your opinions/advice.

Hi..!

A couple of suggestions/thoughts (I'm in the midst of rebuilding my '87 3.2 engine just now (<a href="http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album95" target="_blank">Pictures...</a>) and a couple of things pop into my mind...

Have a PPI done with leakdown & compression tests;

Also, on the 3.2, you need to be aware of valve guide wear. Mine had slightly fewer miles then the '88 you are looking at - and the guides were marginal, at best...

If the clutch was replaced with a SACHS OEM replacement, it uses a rubber center-mount system (disc). At 50K on the clutch, I'd start to be concerned with the age/mileage...

Anyway, those are my comments - but at $15K with good PPI results - it could be a very good deal..!

'Course - now we will all demand that you post pictures.!!!

Good luck - and keep us posted!!

PPI and cross check the reciepts to verify the major claims-

Take it, and quick.

I agree - if the PPI checks out and there are no other problems, grab it up - you wont see that price for an 88 again.

Good luck!
