Wheel cleaning time ...
I recently bought an '89 Carrera, low miles and nearly showroom condition. While crawling around and looking underneath at most of what there is to see, I noted that the insides of the wheels looked as though they had never been cleaned. They are GP White-painted Fuchs, and until I took them off yesterday I didn't know that paint was applied on the back side as well.
As y'all probably know, most of the dirt was brake dust. However, thare was a significant bit of cosmoline(?) coating still remaining, and the remnants of several tape-on balance weights.
I used some bug and tar removal stuff, and fingernail scraping to clean off most of it. Anybody have any suggestions on how it might be done more easily ... solvents (tried a little naphtha but scared of softening paint) or nylon scouring pads, or whatever? I'm not into using excessive elbow grease, what with a little arthritis, bursitis, laziness, etc.
TIA for any suggestions!
