just use sandpaper, but don't use a rogh grit, I would say 200 or so, just enogh so the paint has something to stick too.
Check the archives here there was a some discussion about this before, also check the archives at Pelican I know there was a lot of talk about it year or so ago.

I thought my dull Targa bar was going to need a re-spray, but--on a whim--applied Amour All to the bar. I'll be damned if it didn't restore a nice gloss. Absolutely no need to paint now, and water beads up nicely on the bar's surface. Don't know how far gone your bar is, but might be worth a shot.

I waxed my 87 rollbar,so far it has lasted 2 months.Then I used petroleum jelly on my wheels what a difference that made.To think of the hundred of dollars I spent on cleaning stuff I should have just read the manual.

Yes petroleum Jelly is vaseline. It is the best thing to use when polishing your Fuchs, it is actually even written in the owners manual as how to care for them.
I also was shocked the first time I read it, then I tried it. IT WORKS!
