Post timing chain durability

Hi to all,

did anyone ever have problems with timing chains having become too long?
My car has the hydraulic tensioners, but I get some chain noise on the right side. The noise remained after replacing the tensioner and idler arms.
I noticed though that the tensioner is quite far out to tension the chain. Is 15 to 18mm normal for the tensioner piston to be out?

does it happen that the timing chains just getting too long by age and usage?
My car has 80000km, but I do push the engine!

yes, the chains can stretch. The chain on the left side on my car stretched to the point that the tensioner was hitting the chain case and makeing a horific sound. I replaced it with a master link chain so I didn't have to completely disassemble the engine.
