The strap that wraps around the fan shroud is made of steel, and over time has a 'greenish-gold' appearance to it. I've seen a number of people's engine bays where they've polished it to a shiny silver. What type of polish will shine it up, and get the green out of it?

While I have not done this. GO to sears and get a small buffing wheel and buffing bar. There are different bars for different materials. Then AFter you buff up, clear coat with a high temp product...... or just get it chromed. Again I have not done this to my 911.

Lush Daddy, the factory color for that band is gold annodized. If you have seen them silver and shining, they have probably been chrome or some process taken to remove the goldish color.

David,
That cadmium plating polishes off quite easily. Getting the polished finish is a little more work. As bds1 stated, you'll have to get on it with some high speed tool with some compounds to make the finish you're looking to get. Might have a hard time keeping the clear coat on the strap. Could get scuffed up pretty good upon reinstallation of the strap. Kind of a pain sometimes to get it under the mounting location.
